Jess Taylar is founder/owner of High Priestess Botanica, a CBD Bath, Body and Beauty company. We caught up with her to learn about her company and thoughts on the industry.
1. How did you get involved in cannabis?
I’ve always been an avid cannabis user and believer in its healing qualities. I started working in the cannabis industry in 2014 at a medical dispensary in Southern Oregon. The staff was made up of experienced herbalists, and I had the opportunity to learn about healing with plants, cannabis especially. I still love combining cannabis with other herbs for smoking blends and topicals.
2. What is your mission?
My mission is to honor this sacred plant by crafting hemp-infused self care products that not only make people feel radiant, but also are made with ingredients that support the welfare of animals and the environment.
3. Where do you see yourself in the industry in 5 years?
My goal is to continue to grow my business and move up to Portland (OR) and collaborate with all the amazing folks in the cannabis industry up there. I’d like my brand to become not only a source for CBD-infused self-care products, but also for events, education, and support. My partner is a chef (@ijuanaeat), and we’ve been working on doing cannabis-infused dinners. We’re hoping to secure a space to do these regularly, and involve local purveyors, musicians, and artists.
4. What's the biggest challenge of working in the cannabis space and the biggest reward?
All my products are made with organic hemp, meaning it has less than .3% THC and is rich in CBD. Hemp is totally legal, but unfortunately payment processors like PayPal and Venmo don’t allow the sale of CBD or any byproducts. This makes it incredibly difficult to sell my stuff online. I’ve chosen to infuse my products with CBD 1) because I believe in its medicinal qualities and 2) because it is legal - otherwise I would also be infusing THC in my products as well. There’s some road bumps along the way, but being apart of the post prohibition industry is incredible.
Whether I’m outside in my garden, or infusing oils with hemp grown by my friends, I feel a strong connection to the divine feminine power that cannabis holds. It’s taught me to honor strength and resiliency, and has also brought some of the most incredible people into my life that I could ever hope for! The cannabis community is filled with kind and unique individuals, and it’s truly so special.
