The Initiative Accelerator Program for Women in the Marijuana Industry
The number of women holding leadership and executives roles in the international marijuana industry is low compared to men. A survey conducted by MJ Business Daily showed women holding leadership positions at cannabis firms dropped nine percent, from 2015 to 2017. Amy Margolis, founder of The Initiative and Oregon Cannabis Association says the decline is because corporate America and sources from mainstream investors are providing the investments.
The Initiative is an organization offering a training and mentoring program for helping women entrepreneurs reach their leadership goals. Some reasons for the drop in women founders are limited funding, education, and tools to be successful.
The Initiative’s three-month program teaches each entrepreneur about regulatory and the forces of the world markets. It started in January 2019 with a limit of ten takes part and teachings in the following areas:
- Budget Creation
- Financial Statements and Reporting
- Strategic Team Building
- Employment Law
- Corporate Structure
- Marketing Strategies
- Using Social Media
- Creating Websites
- Negotiation of contracts
- Building leadership skills
- Raising Funds
There is no guarantee the participants will receive funding after completing the program, but the program is so amazing and worth all the time. If you own a marijuana company and have a female founder, she will meet rising leaders in cannabis to mentor her. Mentors are there after completing the program to provide marketing and networking support to businesses.
Five Benefits of The Initiative Accelerator
- Sponsorship Awards for possible additional funding by New York based iAthus Capital.
- Access to tools to one of the largest networks in cannabis.
- Access to investment groups offering funding for women founders of marijuana businesses.
- Access to information about national, state, and local regulations.
- Leadership development to guide your team efficiently and productively.
Margolis sees the issues among women entrepreneurs and is on the mission of equipping them with the proper tools for success. She wants to ensure they are receiving enough funding and possess the expertise to become great leaders in the marijuana industry.
The Initiative Accelerator provides these women with the right resources to help them keep their executive and founder roles. Amy strongly believes there is room for more women to enter the industry and become successful businesswomen as founding partners of cannabis firms.
How to Join The Initiative Accelerator Program
The 2019 Initiative Accelerator Program started in January and will last through March. Prospective participants can inquire about future programs and scheduling on The Initiative’s website. Only 10 female founders can take part in each program at a time. Once the participants receive acceptance, they will learn how to take control of their business through mentorship and become a leader in a competitive industry. If you are a founder and executive of a cannabis company and want to learn how to lead your business, the program is the best recommendation.
