Martha Stewart Developing Hemp-Derived CBD Products

Martha Stewart joins cannabis company Canopy Growth

Martha Stewart announced she would join the Canadian marijuana company, Canopy Growth, as an adviser. Canopy Growth is one of the world’s largest marijuana producers. The company is based in Smith Falls, Ontario. It operates ten licensed production sites.

The business partnership will be developing hemp-derived CBD products. CBD products are cannabis based that may be used for a variety of purposes and produced in different forms. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound which has very low levels of THC. THC is the active component that produces the feeling of getting high. Stewart will be involved with starting a line of CBD products for animal health products and food. It appears likely that she will eventually be involved with developing edible CBD products for people.

Canopy Growth announced it received a license from the state of New York to process and produce hemp. Canopy Growth estimates spending between 100-150 million dollars in the upstate New York project. New York Senator Chuck Schumer has stated the project could create hundreds of jobs. Martha Stewart isn’t the only media icon involved with the booming industry. Snoop Dog is another media personality actively involved with growing market of CBD based products. Snoop and Stewart also co-host a cooking and lifestyle show.
